Moving the sport forward requires a bold new strategy. “Gamers” are a determent to the sport in its purest form. Most equipment used by current competitors is impractical, borderline absurd . We will not allow various forms of “gamer gear” in the series.
  • Tripods; a crutch of the modern PRS competitor, will not be allowed within 6 feet of a rifle at any match. Carlos Hathcock didnt need a tripod, neither do you.
  • “Gamerchanger/cheater bags”; any bag that is not explicitly designed to be used as a rear bag, with dimensions exceeding 7”x7” and weight in excess of 12oz are not permitted. These create an unfair environment and discourage true marksmanship.
  • Laser Range Finders; every match will have a requirement of 2 unknown distance stages, which will need to me ranged with your reticle, no electronic ranging devices of any kind are permitted, a LRF isnt going to help you when an EMP hits. *Mildot master tools will be allowed.
  • Ammunition Rules; calibers will be required to have SAAMI specifications and factory ammo options from major manufacturers. No “wildcats” allowed. 2700fps speed limit regardless of caliber.
  • Jerseys/Shooting blouses; offering small advantages but significant psychological stress to less dressed competitors, any type of shooting jersey will not be permitted. Teeshirts or similar garments are not permitted to have any more than 2 company logos covering more than 60% off the garment.
  • Muzzle breaks: muzzle brakes will not be permitted on any short action rifles, the only gun that needs a brake is a long action unless youre a 12 year old girl. Also they are very rude to other shooters, target crowns and flash hiders will be permitted.
  • Silencers; being that these reside in a gray zone legally and allow the ATF to search your house at any time, no silencers will be permitted.
  • Unsafe triggers; trigger weight restrictions will be enforced, any trigger found with a pull weight under 2lbs will be disqualified. This is an unsafe act and will not be tolerated.
We also believe that the basic structure of the competitive environment needs fixed. Below we will outline a few general changes to basic rules within the ARS.
  • Squadding will be random to discourage wind gaming and cheating.
  • The ARS strives for ultimate practicality and realism, all targets will be steel in the shapes of wild animals, no other shapes will be permitted.
  • Scoring; we will have no arbitration, any score discrepancy's will result in stage DQ’s, scores will be kept on carbonless copy paper with the shooter keeping an initialed pink copy, you must verify your score and initial it before leaving the stage.
  • ARS will employ a hybrid scoring system, combining match finish and points earned, then averaged, to guarantee the best scoring system in the sport.
  • Target size and distance will be evaluated for each match with state of the art algorithms to guarantee any shooter who places in the top 50 will receive a minimum 70 points in the national points race.
  • All matches are lost brass matches, to discourage illegal reloading and offset match costs, all brass will become property of ARS upon hitting the ground to be sold for scrap value.
